3g Food Grade Indicating Silica Gel Desiccant Packets

Wisesorbent's 3g food-safe silica gel desiccant packets are designed for direct contact with food, supplements, and pharmaceutical products. Packaged in breathable OPP (oriented polypropylene) material, they effectively absorb moisture to keep contents dry, fresh, and shelf-stable.

Key Features

  • Food Safe Packaging: Water-based ink printing on OPP film — safe for direct contact with food, medicine, vitamins, and health care products.
  • Indicating Color Change: Cobalt chloride-free orange silica gel beads turn green when moisture-saturated (at 20%–50% RH), giving a clear visual signal without opening the package.
  • OPP Packaging Material: High-strength, oil-resistant film with micro-perforations for breathability. Dust-free, discoloration-free, with clean and clear printing.
  • High Absorption Capacity: Each 1g of silica gel protects up to 120 cubic inches of enclosed space — ideal for sealed containers and bulk packaging lines.
  • Single-Use Design: The OPP packaging material is not heat-tolerant — these packets are designed for single use and should be replaced once saturated (beads turn fully green).

How Much Do You Need? – Usage Guide

A general rule of thumb: use 1 gram of desiccant per 100–150 cubic inches (1.6–2.5 liters) of enclosed space. The 3g packet covers up to 300–450 cubic inches, making it a versatile choice for standard retail and food packaging.

  • Beef jerky & dried meat bags (4–8 oz): 1 × 3g packet per bag
  • Nut & trail mix bags (8–16 oz): 1–2 × 3g packets per bag
  • Supplement bottles (60–120 count): 1 × 3g packet per bottle
  • Pet treat bags (0.5–1 lb): 1 × 3g packet per bag
  • Tea canisters & coffee bags (4–8 oz): 1 × 3g packet per container
  • Ammo cans & tool boxes (small): 1 × 3g packet per 300 cubic inches of interior space
  • Camera bags & equipment cases (medium): 1–2 × 3g packets per case

For larger containers or high-humidity environments, increase the quantity proportionally. For smaller individual portions, consider our 1g or 2g options.

Where to Use These Desiccant Packets

Food & Beverage Packaging: Nuts, beef jerky, dried fruits, seaweed, spices, puffed snacks, tea, coffee, dehydrated vegetables — any moisture-sensitive food product benefits from a 3g desiccant packet inside the sealed bag or container.

Supplements & Health Products: Vitamins, capsules, protein powders, and herbal products are highly susceptible to humidity. Place one packet per bottle or pouch to maintain potency and prevent clumping.

Pet Food & Treats: Keep dry kibble, jerky treats, and freeze-dried pet food fresh longer by including a desiccant packet in each resealable bag or storage bin.

Industrial & Equipment Storage: Protect tools, ammo cans, camera lenses, electronics, and collectibles from rust, corrosion, and moisture damage during storage or shipping.
